Windows are in!

May 28, 2009 by Rachel Vande Brake

After a long wait and some hard work, the new windows are finally going into the Herrick Hotel and Woodbury Hall. Things are really starting to come together. The hotel rooms are sheet rocked, the bathrooms are being tiled, and they are beginning t0 take the shape of a first class hotel. The upper level of Woodbury Hall is complete and the original wood floors are just spectacular. The Talking Waters Campground now has 16 RV sites and no matter which one you are in, they are a little piece of heaven. The damn is being worked on so the lake can be filled, and the three tipis are here and will just be amazing. With a few weeks left to go to the opening, there is activity everywhere. Can’t wait to have you come stay with us and enjoy this “vision restored”.

Everything is moving forward as planned at Buffalo Ridge Resort. The walls for the Racquetball court are up, and the fitness center will begin its transformation.  Lake Elsie is scheduled to be filled up next week and the grass is starting to grow around the premises. With the landscaping beginning next week, it will be exciting to watch the “vision” begin to take shape. Stay tuned for more updates and pictures.

Buffalo Ridge Resort is beginning to take shape.

If you have not been to Gary in the past few months, you will notice a few changes. The Buffalo Ridge Resort (formally the South Dakota School for the Blind) is starting to look like so many remember it. The two dorms that used to hold the blind students, have now been transformed into the Herrick Hotel, and the Woodbury Hall.  The lake that once was filled in, has now been dug out and Lake Elsie has appeared with Talking Water Campground around its beautiful shoreline. With a 3rd of July Grand Opening for the Resort, there is much work that is still to be done. The racquetball court and fitness center are well on their way, as well as the landscaping which begins in the next week or so. Please keep checking, as I will keep you posted to updates and photos of our progress. It is an exciting time!campus-map1
